Re: Rescission of Campus-Specific Meal and Refreshment Policy
Colleagues:
I'm writing to notify you of immediate changes to UCSC's meal and refreshment policy.
Last fall I requested that Internal Audit and Advisory Services conduct a review of campus travel
and entertainment policy, procedures, and practices. The review occurred during the rollout of
revised processes for entertainment and business meal related expenses.
The review revealed that the revised processes clarified roles and responsibilities and
standardized procedures. However, the review further noted that the UCSC campus policy was
more restrictive than the systemwide policy, and in many cases divisions had additional
restrictions. These additional restrictions limited the efficacy of the newly revised processes.
Therefore, I am rescinding the campus-specific meal and refreshment policy effective today,
July 2, 2012. UCSC will comply with UC BFB BUS-79- Expenditures for Entertainment, Business
Meetings, and Other Occasions, thereby enabling simplified processes while maintaining
appropriate divisional control and accountability. The systemwide policy can be found at:

Please communicate this policy change broadly within your areas of responsibility.
Sincerely,
Alison Galloway
